Keeping your Station Clean

Today I will talk a bit about regular upkeep procedures for maintaining a clean Workstation.
Some of the benefits of maintaining a tidy system are the following:
-Faster Startup times
-Less lag during high loads
-Faster Overall performance
My ritual is done at least once a week and consists of the following:

1. UNFRAG all Compound Files using Unfrag.EXE and pointing it towards my Work folder (that is, where I keep all my 3D files).
Unfrag Utility doing its thing.

Unfrag Utility finished.

As you can see, the Unfrag utility was able to pull off exactly 5.40MB from our files.

2. Run CCleaner (formerly known as Crap Cleaner) by Piriform.  This most excellent utility available for Free download allows you to clean out your computer from temporary files, buffer files, etc.  It also has a function for removing old programs and even a startup menu editor in case you want to delete any redundant entries.

Find this program over at download.com if you would like to clean out your system.

3. Lastly, run the Defrag Utility.  This one has to be done constantly and unrelentingly.  This step should be performed all the time.  Even though it takes the longest, one must find times to defrag ones own hard drive.

You can find it under Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

Keeping a system clean can boost your productivity and ensure you make the most out of your time.  A great designer is only as good as his computer.

That's all for today.  I hope this information helps!

Until next time,
